Founded in 1952, the Forestry Research Institute Malaysia museum is home to a collection of different varieties of wood species found in the country, including indigenous fruit trees, conifers and monocotyledonous trees.

Various forms of tree usage and products made from wood have also been displayed. The museum is spread in 600- hectares, 6 km northwest of Kuala Lumpur, is surrounded by the Bukit Lagong Forest Reserve and is one of the world's oldest forest research centers.

The Forest Research Institute Malaysia, promotes sustainable management and optimal use of forest resources by producing knowledge and technology through research, development and application. FRIM's expertise, research and international collaborations have earned the Institute a name for itself in tropical forestry.

The Forest Research Institute Malaysia is one of the leading organizations in tropical forestry research both within the country and abroad. Established by British colonial forest scientist in 1929, the former Forest Research Institute with Dr F.W. Foxworthy as its first chief research officer, became a statutory body governed by the Malaysia Forestry Research. In the year 2004, FRIM became a statutory body governed under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Malaysia.
