The ‘Badan Warisan Malaysia' is a voluntary organization with charitable institution status which is dedicated to protect, conserve, preserve and maintain the built heritage of the country. The museum was established in 1983 in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia. Nestled in a 1925 Tudor building, the chief objective behind its establishment was to preserve Malaysia's cultural heritage.

A reference library and a gift shop are there in the premises. A beautiful bamboo hut built by the indigenous tribe of the Temiar community adds to its external beauty. Badan Warisan Malaysia has played a major role in the promotion of the preservation and conservation of Malaysia's heritage since its formation in 1983 as a Non- Government Organization, which works for the conservation and preservation of Malaysia's built heritage.

The members of the organization have been associated with the preservation of important built heritage structures and sites of the country including Rumah Kutai in Perak and the Central Market in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur.
